The upper section begins high in the Uintah Mountain range at Trial Lake. Starting as a small mountain stream, it slowly grows larger over the next 36 miles as it runs into the Jordanelle Reservoir.
This section holds native Cutthroat, German Brown, Rainbow, and Brook trout.
This section is a well kept secret that receives light pressure and holds plenty of fish.
At the foot of the Uintah Mountains this is one of the most beautiful areas in Utah. If you are looking for a quiet and relaxing getaway this is the place for you.

The middle section of the “Provo” runs from the Jordanelle Reservoir down to Deer Creek Reservoir. With approximately 9 miles of river between the two reservoirs, slowly meandering through open meadows.
This section is currently undergoing exciting new changes. It is being restored to its original riverbed, with rehabilitation of surrounding wetlands and an extensive re-vegetation project. This 5-year project is one of the most exciting rehabilitation projects ever done in U.S. history.
Fish have already moved back in to reconstructed stretches, looking bigger and healthier than ever! By the year 2005, the Utah Division of Wildlife is projecting a new, 12-mile section of river that will boast up to 5,000 fish per river mile.
Although construction started in 1999, there is still plenty of good fishing on the middle, which is why it’s so popular with our guests! This section holds beautiful Browns, Rainbows, Cutthroats, and Mountain Whites.
Check the Middle Provo River Flows
The lower section is the most recognized section of the Provo river. This section runs out of Deer Creek Reservoir and drops through Provo Canyon. The first 9 miles of this section is known as the “Blue Ribbon Trout Stream of the Wasatch Front”, which boasts an amazing 4,500 fish per river mile.

If you are looking for a full day of serenity and solidarity, Fish Creek could be your answer. Located in the Manti-LaSal National Forest, Fish Creek begins as a tail water running out of Schofield Reservoir. Fish Creek winds gently through open meadows, with plenty of room to cast your favorite dry fly. Fish Creek holds Browns, Rainbows, and Bonneville Cutthroat trout. The incredible scenery and the rare sighting of other fishermen make Fish Creek a perfect place to spend a day.

The Green River below Flaming Gorge Reservoir is one of Utah's most well known fisheries. Beautiful red canyon walls and crystal clear water makes it tough to pay attention to the task at hand, fishing. The Green holds an amazing 7-8 thousand fish per river mile and is best fished by drift boat. Our friends at Spinnerfall are running drift trips daily, and are always willing to share their love of this beautiful river. Check out their website for details.
